Winter Past: The Spirit of Hope

“Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matt 6:21). The “heart” represents the hidden, deepest and most intimate part of ourselves in Biblical thought. The “treasure” represents whatever we value most. Andy Warhol’s earlier works reflect the consumer world we live in. There is where the heart of so many is – there is the “treasure”. In Romans 5:5 Paul speaks of the love of God poured into our hearts “by the Holy Spirit given us” (Rom 5:5). It is by meditating on the love of God revealed in Jesus and shared with us by the Spirit that we allow this love to enter our hearts. These meditations help us find this world and discover this love. “We are precious in the eyes of God and honoured and he loves us” (Is 43:3). In God’s Spirit of love all of us belong and our lives have meaning.
